You may try to build an army around them but I will advocate for a different style of butchery. However, they lack armor-piercing damage and are not as durable as they could be. Nordic Warriors, Elite Nordic Warriors, Nordic Chosen Warrions: These are all varying degrees of assault infantry with decent shields. If you want to defend a part of your line while pushing up elsewhere then you can use them for that.
Kind of meh because they are only useful if you are playing defense or in a protracted combat, both of which are anathema to this faction's best units. Wolf Coats: They can encourage your troops. Cost almost twice as much and dont give you any more absorbed shots to the face.
While your opponents are busy chewing on Krossbow Flayed Chicken you can charge up and demand the right to your share of the basket, axe in hand. Charge them in a screen in front of your charging infantry and they will soak up damage. Note, however, that they die to anything with a bow.
